Grant Abbott - Macmillan Pass

Niddery and Sekwi Map Sheets (105O/1, 2 and parts of 105O/7,8 & 105P/4,5), Macmillan Pass

The MacMillan Pass District (MPD) is one of the three primary SEDEX Districts within Selwyn Basin. It contains, the Tom and Jason sedimentary exhalative Zn, Pb, Ag, Ba deposits, numerous barren barite deposits, and the Mactung deposit, one of the largest undeveloped tungsten deposits in the western world. In the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, the MPD was the focus of intense exploration. From 1980 through 1983, the proponent undertook a 1:50,000 scale bedrock mapping program of the District. Publications from this work included Open File maps with an accompanying report and two brief external publications. Revisions to the mapping continued from 1984 to 1988. These results have never been published. No final maps or final report have been completed, and critical information such as formal stratigraphic nomenclature, paleontology, geochemistry, and structure are not publicly available.

This project will provide a comprehensive overview of the regional geological setting of mineral deposits in the Macmillan Pass District by producing a final synthesis of fieldwork completed in the 1980’s, consisting of a bulletin and 1:50,000 scale maps.
