Economic Geologist – Yukon MINFILE
Robert began his Yukon public service career in September 1991 with the Exploration and Geological Services Division of the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs. Robert started as a staff geologist, and then managed the publications office for several years, before assuming the position of Economic Geologist in charge of Yukon MINFILE in 1996. Robert was officially devolved to the Yukon Government and the newly formed Yukon Geological Survey (YGS) in April 2003.
Until recently, the Yukon MINFILE was a standalone database of metallic, industrial mineral and coal occurrences in Yukon. In September 2011, the mineral occurrence data was migrated into the YGS’s new web-based, integrated database. The integrated database was initiated as a depository of all data created and captured by YGS, with the Yukon MINFILE data constituting the hard rock exploration portion of the database. Data are acquired from assessment reports, property visits, corporate websites and news releases and used by Robert to create new occurrences and update existing occurrences. Robert also works closely with the Technical Services Unit to rationalize existing data and offer advice on future improvements to the Enterprise database.
Robert holds a M.Sc. and B.Sc. degree in geology from the University of Windsor (1987, 1982). His M.Sc. thesis focused on paleomagnetic measurements in the Kootenay arc, British Columbia. Following graduation he worked as a contract geologist on various exploration projects.
