Gravity Surveys

YGS is continuing to collect new gravity data, upgrading the current gravity database for Yukon with more closely spaced (~2km) stations. A survey is planned for early winter 2015; the survey area is still being identified.  The survey will be funded by CanNor.

3D Inversion of magnetic and gravity data, southwestern Yukon
Mira Geoscience has been contracted to undertake a “value-added” study that inverts magnetic, gravity, bedrock geology and physical rock property data to generate constrained 3-dimensional geologic models. The study area covers the northern part of Whitehorse trough and extends westward across a portion of the Yukon Tanana terrane  to north Aishihik Lake, where recent bedrock mapping (Coast Belt and Whitehorse trough areas ), aeromagnetic1 and gravity2 surveys provide modern constraints for the models.
1. Recent aeromagnetic data for parts of NTS map sheet 115/H was released by YGS as YGS Open Files 2011-5 [7.8 MB], 2011-6 [17.6MB], and 2011-13-18  [48.8 MB]
2. Recent gravity data for parts of NTS map sheets 115/H, 115/I, 105/E and 105/L was released by YGS as YGS Open Files 2011-27 [4.5 MB] and 2012-30 [10.1 MB]
