Selwyn basin pyrite metallogeny

Early-formed sedimentary pyrite in mudstones is enriched in gold, and is a potential source of gold in sediment-hosted gold deposits. By studying sedimentary pyrite, it may be possible to evaluate the capacity of a basin to produce economic sediment-hosted gold deposits. Our pilot study analyses samples from three road transects across the Selwyn basin area using conventional whole-rock analytical techniques, and a new micro-analytical laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (LA-ICPMS) technique.
The analysis of samples for this study is being funded by CanNor through their Strategic Investments in Northern Economic Development (SINED) program.

RGS re-analysis project

In 2010, YGS awarded a multi-year contract to Noble Exploration Services to re-analyze archived stream sediment samples using modern analytical techniques and standards to produce a larger element suite (53 – element ICP-MS data). A total of 9,498 stream sediment records have been released, including 3,209 in 2011 and 6,289 in 2012.
