Minerals Geology

The Mineral Services group of the Yukon Geological Survey (YGS) supports mineral exploration in Yukon through research, information collection and compilation, collaboration and promotional work.

Geologists in the Mineral Services Unit provide information about mineral occurrences, mineral deposits, metallogeny and regional geology in Yukon through property visits, field trips, conferences, informal meetings and publications.

The Unit is responsible for updating the MINFILE database of mineral and work occurrences. It also maintains the H.S. Bostock core library, a repository for drill core and rock samples from various Yukon mineral properties and YGS mapping programs. The Core Library has research and lapidary facilities for microscopy, core viewing and cutting rock samples.

The Yukon Mining Incentives Program (YMIP) is administered by the Mineral Services Unit.
