3. Wolf Lake NATMAP

The upper half of the above diagram depicts the
bedrock successions for the project area from
west to east.  The lower half of the diagram
illustrates the differences in metamorphic grade
and structural style. A major challenge in these
deformed rocks is to determine the relationships
between the assemblages
(unconformity: wavy line; fault:
jagged line; thrust fault: straight solid line).

This project, initiated in 1999, covers an area east of Whitehorse in southern Yukon and northern British Columbia. Funding for this project’s fieldwork is provided by the British Columbia Geological Survey, and additional funding by the Geological Survey of Canada’s NATMAP program. A primary objective was to update bedrock geological maps by examining the strongly deformed rocks of the Yukon-Tanana Terrane; a secondary goal was to refine the tectonic setting of many of the 105 mineral occurrences in southwestern Wolf Lake map area.

Bedrock maps at 1:50,000 scale depict this area in Yukon and adjacent northern British Columbia. New U-Pb zircon dates were used to define four volcanic suites and numerous plutons
