Yukon Mining Incentive Program
What is YMIP?
The Yukon Mining Incentives Program (YMIP) is designed to promote and enhance mineral prospecting and exploration activities in Yukon. The program's function is to provide a portion of the risk capital required to locate, explore and develop mineral projects to an advanced exploration stage. Applicants are invited to submit prospecting and exploration proposals. Only well conceived, technically sound applications will be considered for funding and applicants are encouraged to consult with the Mineral Development Geologist.
The Yukon Mining Incentives program contains three modules:
Grassroots - Prospecting
Qualified prospectors may apply for a contribution of up to $15,000 per year to cover basic operating expenses while searching for new mineral occurrences in Yukon. 100 per cent of approved expenses are reimbursed.
Focused - Regional
Individuals, sole proprietors, partnerships, limited partnerships and corporations undertaking basic exploration work directed at exploring for and appraising the potential of an under-explored area may apply for a contribution of up to $25,000 per year. 75 per cent of approved expenses are reimbursed.
Target Evaluation
Individuals, sole proprietors, partnerships, limited partnerships and corporations undertaking basic exploration work directed at appraising the potential of an under-evaluated occurrence or target may apply for a contribution of up to $50,000 per year. 50 per cent of approved expenses are reimbursed. The intent of this funding is to enable the recipient to carry out exploration work aimed at developing a mineral project to an advanced exploration stage.
How much funding can you receive
Qualified prospectors, individuals, sole proprietors, partnerships, limited partnerships and corporations (‘legal entity’) may submit multiple applications per YMIP module or modules in a given program year.
Funding is not automatic and is not on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications will be reviewed, assessed and evaluated by the Department of Energy, Mines and Resources (EMR) and only well-conceived, technically sound applications will be considered for funding.
Non-arms length relationships between legal entities may be considered, for the purposes of determing YMIP funding, and multiple contributions per legal entity per program year will be subject to the availability of funds and will be at the discretion of the Government of Yukon and EMR.
If your Grassroots Prospecting application and work program are accepted, you may be eligible for an advance of $2,500, first time applicants may be eligible for an advance of $1000. There are no advances for Focused Regional or Target Evaluation modules.
PLEASE REFER TO THE PROGRAM GUIDEBOOK BEFORE COMPLETING AN APPLICATION FOR FUNDING OR PREPARING A PROSPECTING OR EXPLORATION PROPOSAL.
